Radio Shack Unplugs 400. Cox and Comcast email blocking. Action Comics #1 Online!

by David Spark on August 31, 2006

Enjoy your Labor Day. That’s what Radio Shack said to 400 employees as it emailed them a note that said, “Unfortunately, your position is one that has been eliminated.” The message went on to say take 30 minutes to say goodbye and then leave.

Obviously Radio Shack doesn’t use Cox Cable’s email service. Users have complained that Cox is flagging and deleting outbound email they think is spam and not telling the sender it’s doing this. Nor are they admitting anything to the press. According to tests by Broadband Reports, they’re definitely doing this.

And it turns out that Comcast is guilt of this behavior for incoming email as well. The charge? They’re blocking entire domains like NetZero and the site that many argue started the Internet, The Well.

If you’re waiting for blocked email to come through, may I suggest you take a moment to read the comic that started it all. Issue number one of Action Comics which introduced Superman can now be viewed online. Some lucky person who actually had a copy of it has scanned it for everyone to read.
