Boy Scouts and the MPAA. The VC "20 Minute Rule." SJ Mercury News layoffs

by David Spark on October 23, 2006

As if being a Boy Scout wasn’t nerdy enough, the Motion Picture Association of America or MPAA is trying to stop the cultivation of digital thieves by offering Boy Scouts a badge for “Respecting copyrights.”

Thomas Friedman will tell you that digital content has made the world flat. In Silicon Valley’s world of VC money, they’re operating under a different twenty minute rule, which states that VCs won’t fund a start up unless it’s a less than twenty minute drive from their office.

And some sad news to a good source to the Spark Minute. The San Jose Mercury News is rumored to be laying off 101 employees by mid-December. No comment yet from Cruella DeVille.
