CNN covers robocall Republicans. Hacking Democracy on Google Video. Can I photograph my polling place?

November 7, 2006

Follow up on a couple of stories mentioned yesterday. CNN is the first legitimate news source giving coverage to the Republican robocall story in which Republican members are supposedly posing as local democratic candidates and repeatedly calling democratic voters at all hours just to annoy them.

HBO’s Hacking Democracy, the documentary that Diebold complained about yet didn’t see is now available in full on Google video.

Given all this controversy, you’re probably asking yourself, “Can I photograph my polling place?” Well, it varies state by state. But in California you’re not allowed to photograph or videotape people coming in and out of a polling place with the intent of dissuading someone from actually voting. But there doesn’t seem to be any clear ruling against it when you’re actually in the booth.

If you think something fishy is happening at your polling place, like a malfunctioning voting machine, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE. It’s the hotline for the National Campaign for Fair Elections.
