WordCamp 2007

I’m sitting in a packed house of about 300 bloggers for a two day WordPress conference, WordCamp 2007. My main argument is everyone in the room is already a WordPress blogger yet many of the presenters are talking to us like we’re newbie bloggers and we’re not familiar with the technology or concepts of blogging. The reason I came and I believe the reason everyone else here came is to discover what’s new about blogging. I haven’t yet learned anything new, but I’m meeting some good people.

Here are all the photos on Flickr.

UPDATE: Here are some people I’ve ran into.

Jason Brightman – Now currently the Design Director for MacWorld and PC World. He used to be the Design Director at Harris Publishing where he designed magazines like XXL Magazine and King Magazine.

Harry McCracken – Editor in Chief for PC World magazine. Known Harry for a few years. Our sisters are friends and I produced some videos for PC World back in 2004.

John Dvorak – John and I worked together at ZDTV/TechTV and I appeared a few times on his show Silicon Spin. Not even realizing that Jason Richtman was in the room, he spoke very highly of Jason during his panel with Om Malik saying that he was creating WordPress sites that didn’t look like blogs. We had to alert John that Jason was in the room.

Robert Parker – Blog consultant who is guilty of not having a blog of his own yet he consults for others. He admits it. Check out one of his clients, Devra Do Write.

I can sympathize with you wanting to learn new information, but there are newbies at these things.

    Somehow this sounds familiar ;-)
It’s the same thing I have when preparing a talk proposal for the annual Plone conference.. Most of the people will know Plone already and thus a “how do I start with Plone” is probably not doing it.

But then again I also mostly visit these conferences for meeting all those people :-)

Somewhat agree. I thought the topics would be at least a little more advanced considering the audience.

Day 1 is geared toward new bloggers, so yeah. You’ll probably get more out of it tomorrow.

Agreed. Hopefully, this afternoon and tomorrow will be better. So far, it seems like Blogging 101. I was hoping for more WordPress-specific discussions.

maybe that’s because there isn’t much to it.

    There’s beer though right?

  • admin

OK, I’m validated. The moderator just asked how many people use WordPress and everyone in the room just raised their hand.

  • Photar

    boo wordpress :(

Yeah, I had the same impression of WordCamp last year.

Did you make it to the second day? Did you enjoy the presentations more?

Sounds like you got a lot out of the hallway ;-)
