Tech News 2Night: In the Supreme Court Aereo Fights for Its Life

on April 22, 2014

I had a really great time on TWiT’s Tech News 2Night with host Sarah Lane talking about the broadcast TV-over-Internet service Aereo as it fights for survival in front of the supreme court. Will this service beat the broadcast networks? Whatever the decision, due in June or July, will have major implications for TV and also cloud services.

i think you got one point wrong in your interview. Aereo does not allow you to watch TV from areas where you would not ususally be able to (like from New York in your comparison.) It only allows you to get the channels that are available fornm your antenna in your area. Not other cities and not at all if you are not in a covered zip code. So it IS NOT like redistributing content. It is more like selling you an antenna that you don’t have to constantly adjust every time you change the channel. And the DVR function is giving to you what we used to have with VHS recorders (how I miss that)

Robert, thanks for pointing that out. I do stand corrected. Obviously another way, like the multiple antennas, to try to stay within the bounds of the law. Let’s see if they’re actually successful here.
