Palm Pre: iPhone and Android G1 killer?

This year at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) the product that got all the buzz was the Palm Pre smartphone. Last year, the big announcement, the iPhone, wasn’t at CES, it was at MacWorld. Just goes to show you that people are obsessed with smartphones. There’s some great summaries of all the information surrounding this new device. Here are the top three links you should check out:

  • Additional multitouch navigation area below the screen. Also touchable screen, like iPhone. Plus, it has a physical slide out QWERTY keyboard.
  • Palm Synergy, part of the Web OS, will scan your Facebook account and other social networks and drag all contact information, including always updated pictures, into your address book.
  • Some Pre stats: Universal search tool, GPS, Wi-Fi, CDMA/EVDO Rev. A, 8 GB onboard memory, an acceleromter, 3 megapixel camera.
  • Multitasking is core to the Web OS. Easy to launch and stop applications.
  • Will be available first half of 2009. Initially only available through Sprint. Cost hasn’t been released, but could be as high as $400.
