Is the social media space too crowded?

on October 4, 2010

Here’s one of the interviews I shot last week at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference reporting for Yammer.

At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference I spoke with two of my fellow colleagues from Socialmedia.biz, JD Lasica (founder of Socialmedia.biz and Socialbrite.org) and Ayelet Noff, founder of Blonde 2.0, about the overabundance of people in the social media space that call themselves “gurus.” Now I would argue that anyone in the social media space that is successful does not actually call themself a “guru” but rather it’s a name thrust upon them. And anyone who is calling themselves a social media “guru” you should be very wary of.

Ayelet and JD both disagree on this subject. What do you think?

And in other completely unrelated news…Enter Yammer’s “Workplace Communications Horror Story!” Sweepstakes for a chance to win a free iPad. Deadline is October 15th, 2010.

It is funny to hear Ayelet Noff (Blonde 2.0) saying that it is a bad thing that ppl with many followers are calling them self gurus….what does it say about you ?

I definitely do not call myself a “guru.” I refer to my business as a custom publishing business with a strong social media bent. And there are thousands of people that have a much larger audience than me. Heck, Ayelet has a bigger audience than me. :)
