Introduce yourself to new members of your mailing list

by David Spark on January 30, 2008

About two months ago I added a subscription box on my blog and business site for people to receive news updates. I only send them out periodically and often they’re designed to announce a new project or some new article I want to promote.

Prior to the subscription box, every person on my mailing list were people I had met somewhere professionally. With a newsletter sign up box there were people I’d be communicating with that I didn’t know.

If they took the initiative to sign up to my mailing list, I should take the initiative to introduce myself to them, find out who they are, what they were looking to accomplish, and what interested them in my business, Spark Media Solutions.

I use the mailing list program, Campaign Monitor. They capture all the emails of the people who signed up via the form. I grabbed those emails, and using TokBox, I sent them a video message (watch here) introducing myself and asking about them. Like my 325 personalized holiday video mails. This is an experiment. I just sent the message out and I only received one reply from someone I know. We’ll see if this turns out to be as successful as the other project. I’ll make any updates to let you know about the success or failure.

  1. I just sent 325 personal video holiday greetings-How I did it
  2. More ways to watch TV online
  3. Netflix video. HD-DVD Serenity available on BitTorrent. Someone give me Joost.
  4. ATI swallowed. Video Skype. Zune. Google Traffic.
  5. AOL Gives up on Dial Up. ESPN Charges ISPs. iTunes Add-ons.

I think this is a great idea to have a video email to ask people about who they are. That really drives you the will to reply.

I just think your video is a little bit too long, or maybe not organized enough.

    Good job.
